history

It was Arthur Edward Parkinson who first began trading under the name Parkinson's in 1938, in the old wholesale fruit and vegetable market at the bottom of Halford Street, Leicester.

Situated near the old Odeon cinema and now the site of a multi-story car park, the industry worked in much the same way as it does today except produce was moved by horse and cart, and barrow-boys are making deliveries to local shops was a common sight around the city.

Some thirty years later, when articulated vehicles and bulk handling were introduced, the company relocated to a more suitable position on Freeman's Common, ideal for the purpose with its easy road access and additional space. One of the first companies to occupy this new site was Parkinson's, Roger and then Graham, followed by David; son and grandsons of the original founder.

Since then they have continued on the goodwill of the family name, supplying a comprehensive range of fresh produce for the needs of all types of caterer. Parkinson Food Services offers a convenient and high quality service to customers throughout the East Midlands as it continues to develop and expand.
